NFHA Member, Sofia Tavares, age 10 has been awarded the first NFHA Scholarship to attend the Lendon Grey Dressage 4 Kids show with a Fjord in Saugerties, NY. The scholarship of $500 was made to assist with show expenses. Sofia is showing Mr. Boombastic (registered name Valhalla's Baldur, barn name Bubba). Bubba is a grey dun gelding.
Sofia became explains her interest in Fjords with this story: "My grandma bought Bubba for my older sister when he was two. She wasn’t able to ride and care for him as much as she would like, so she finally gave in to me bugging her and has lent him to me. Bubba is everything to me. Bubba makes everyone happy. He’s special. Bubba is my best friend."
Sofia started riding two and half years ago. "I have been able to try many different types of riding with Bubba like Dressage, Jumping, Barrel Racing, Games and Cross Country."
Her short term riding goal "is to get a 65% in the 25th Youth Dressage Festival this August in Training Level One on Bubba." Her long term goal "is to qualify for the national youth championships in Eventing by the time I am 16 years old. By the age of 24 I hope to make it to the Olympics for Eventing, Jumping or Dressage and be a horse trainer."
The NFHA congratulates Sofia and notes that our dreams and goals can start with a Fjord. Watch for the follow up article from Sofia about her experience at the show. Spoiler -- she did very well with Bubba!
