Wendy Luscombe Memorial D4K Scholarship

The Norwegian Fjord Horse Alliance (NFHA) is offering a $250 scholarship to support a youth rider competing on a Norwegian Fjord at the 2026 Dressage4Kids (D4K) Youth Dressage Festival, held at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown, NJ.

Scholarship Details

• Event: Dressage4Kids Youth Dressage Festival

• Dates: Friday, August 7 – Sunday, August 9, 2026

• Location: Horse Park of New Jersey, Allentown, NJ

• Eligibility: Open to youth riders competing on a Norwegian Fjord at the 2026 D4K Festival

• Purpose: The scholarship may be used to offset expenses such as travel, stabling, and entry fees

• Requirement: The recipient must successfully ride and participate at any level during the event

 

About the Dressage4Kids Youth Dressage Festival

Now in its 27th year, the D4K Youth Dressage Festival offers a unique three-phase competition for riders ages 4 to 25. Riders compete in:

1. A written test

2. An individual dressage test

3. An equitation ride

Divisions range from Introductory through Fourth Level, FEI Pony, Junior, Young Rider, and Para Equestrian. Additional classes include Leadline, Prix Caprilli (dressage with jumps), Dressage Trail, and Musical Freestyle. Riders may also compete in teams for the Kross Creek Farm Team Championships, held in honor of Margarita Serrell.

Scholarship Application Requirements

• NFHA membership (Single, Family, or Youth)

• Show a Norwegian Fjord Horse (Include a photo with your application)

• Submit a completed application by July 5, 2026

  • Applications open April 1, 2026

Post-Show Requirement

Within 10 days of the show, the scholarship recipient must submit a short article about her/his experience at the festival, including a photo.  The article will be published on the NFHA website. Upon submission, the $250 scholarship check will be mailed to the recipient.

About Wendy

Among Wendy Luscombe's final contributions to the Fjord community was serving as a founding member of the Norwegian Fjord Horse Alliance, where she played an instrumental role in developing the Alliance's awards program. Wendy believed wholeheartedly in recognizing the accomplishments of Norwegian Fjord Horses across every discipline and celebrated each achievement with genuine enthusiasm.

Her passion for the breed was unwavering. She devoted countless hours to showcasing the Fjord's athleticism, versatility, and competitive abilities, particularly within the dressage community, where she worked tirelessly to broaden appreciation for the breed.

​

Wendy's enduring friendship with Lendon Gray also inspired her support of Dressage4Kids (D4K). In 2024, she championed the Norwegian Fjord Horse Alliance's sponsorship of a scholarship for the D4K Festival to encourage and recognize youth exhibiting Norwegian Fjord Horses. To honor Wendy's vision and lasting commitment, this annual scholarship will continue in her name, supporting a young rider competing with a Fjord Horse at the festival.

Wendy's influence on both the Norwegian Fjord Horse and dressage communities will endure for generations. Her passion, generosity, vision, and infectious enthusiasm inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, and her legacy continues to encourage others to celebrate and advance this remarkable breed.
